GET INVOLVED! It enhances your character, your community, your experience, your mind, and ultimately, YOUR LIFE.
BENEFITS OF INVOLVEMENT:
- you become more aware of the people in the school
- you become more comfortable in the school community
- you widen your understanding of various clubs and their goals
- you participate in real-world experiences of planning, communicating, learning, and other important life-skills
- you influence those around you – “If you’re passionate about your work, it makes the people around you want to be involved, too.” (Wanda Sykes)
- your passion for being involved will most likely increase your desire to attend school because you’re a part of something that’s making a difference
LEVELS OF INVOLVEMENT:
Your level of involvement should be determined by what you think you can do responsibly and effectively.
- An informed student – one who knows what’s going on about school events and may or may not choose to attend events.
- A participating student – one who attends most events that a club or activity hosts and has limited involvement in the club/activity itself.
- MEMBER: An active student – one who becomes a member, attends most meetings, and volunteers to implement events through planning, publicity, and attendance; may encourage others to get involved.
- CHAIR: A student chair – one who volunteers to chair events while also attending and participating in meetings regularly and most events sponsored by the club; also encourages others to get involved.
- OFFICER: A student officer – one who runs for club office (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, executive board) in order to give back to the organization through his/her leadership, supporting his/her peers who are also involved; continues to encourage others to get involved.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED:
- Review the Schedule of Events to see a schedule of ALL activities, including when athletic contests, club meetings, and events are being held.
- Listen to the morning announcements (which are also posted on our TRHS website, www.kentschools.net/o/trhs) for upcoming meetings and events.
- Visit the Student Activities & Athletics Office on a regular basis for information on current activities and events.
- Read through the list of club descriptions to see which groups interest you; attend one of their meetings or events!
- Talk to your peers – what clubs and activities are they finding valuable?
- Be willing to get involved in areas outside of your comfort zone – you can learn a lot from trying something new and larger than yourself. “Believe in something larger than yourself . . . get involved in the big ideas of your time.” (Barbara Bush)
